Health Benefits Of Wine, are they for real, or just another cliche? Does red wine really have the ability to help fight against heart disease? Many studies have been made to thoroughly investigate on the benefits of wine, red wine in particular. And results of the said studies has shown that drinking moderate amount of red wine lowers the risk of heart attack for those middle-age range individuals, by about 30 to 50 percent.and when you say moderate, it basically means, just half a shot glass drink a day for women and one shot glass a day for men. But as we all know, some people drink beyond moderate amounts, and when asked by their doctors, they say they drink with moderation and only the right amount that is healthy for a person. They are only cheating themselves and not their doctors.

These studies suggested that red wine has a content which has the ability to prevent future heart attacks for those who have previously suffered from one, and that red wine can also raise HDL cholesterol otherwise known as the Good Cholesterol, while at the same time, lower and prevent the Bad cholesterol or LDL cholesterol from forming. Red wine has this unique chemical property that can help prevent blood clots and also reduces damage on the blood vessels that are caused by fat deposits.

Studies on the health benefits of wine has also shown that those people from the Mediterranean region who celebrate wine of the month, made wine a part of their traditions, and those who have developed the habit of drinking red wine regularly, were found to have lower risks of heart diseases.

But what is it that Red Wine has that makes it good for the heart and beneficial to our health?

Red wine is a rich source of antioxidants flavonoid phenolics. The healing effects of red wine is coming from its phenolic contents and properties. According to studies, chemicals in red wine such as Resveratrol and the Flavonoids are the main source of the health and heart friendly antioxidants. Resveratrol can be found in both grape skins and seeds. Resveratrol is said to increase the HDL cholesterol or good cholesterol that helps prevent blood clotting. While Flavonoids,has the antioxidant properties that helps to prevent blood clots and plaque formation in the arteries.

Wow! So drinking wine is actually good? And since it is good for our health, perhaps it’s about time that we start drinking more? Does it mean “more wine, more antioxidants?”

The answer is “NO!” don’t even think about it, silly! To those alcoholics out there, don’t rejoice and think that you have now found an excuse to drink more! Because even if wine has its health benefits, drinking without moderation is not only detrimental to your health, but can also cause accidents due to drunk driving, and get people in trouble.

Wine is only healthy if you drink it moderately and if you take in the right amount that is considered healthy. Even with its health beneficial antioxidant content, the fact remains that wine has alcohol, and excessive drinking or alcohol intake can increase triglycerides or Bad blood lipids which can result result to weight gain. Alcohol consumption is also associated with diseases such as cancer of the colon, liver, etc.

Take advantage of the health benefits of wine in a good way. Celebrate life, drink wine, but with moderation! Discipline is the key to everything. Start to develop a good healthy eating habit. Eat more fresh fruits and vegetables, and less to nothing of those that are rich in fats and bad cholesterol, exercise, and increase your water intake. Take care of your heart and be healthy!
