Shakira close her boyfriend: Colombian singer Shakira and her Argentine boyfriend of 11 years have split up, the pair told the Spanish-language newspaper El Pais. Shakira and Antonio de la Rua say they decided in August to "take time apart" from their romantic relationship, but kept the details private until now. The two view their separation as temporary, and de la Rua will continue to oversee Shakira's business and career interests. He is the son of a former president of Argentina who governed from 1999 to 2001.
The singer has for months denied speculation that the relationship was under stress. In December 2010 she was linked to international football player for Barcelona, Gerard Piqué. Pictures of Shakira and Piqué on the beach forced the singer to once again deny rumours of problems in her relationship with de la Rua.
